☆ Research practice - Middle Ages ☆

In European history, the Middle Ages lasted from the 5th to the 15th century.
It began with the collapse of the Western Roman Empire and merged into the Renaissance.
The Middle Ages is split into three different parts which are;

  • Early Middle Ages (5th - 10th century)
When the roman empire got destroyed, people started migrating over to france\old german empire in search for a better life.
  • High Middle Age (10th - 13th century)
Expansion of population (from roughly 30 million to 80), people started gathering into small communities towns or villages.
The reason for the expansion of population hasn't been completly explained so far - they assumed it had to do with the fact that there were hardly any wars or plagues around during this time period.
  • Late Middle Age (13th - 15th century)
Black death (roughly 35 mil) died, which was roughly third of the population of Europe.
The black death also lead into a time period in which massive amounts of land were abandoned.
Kings/princes gaining more might and influence on thier people.

What's good to know:
politics
  • King (highest position), princes obtain land from the king in exchange for a royal swore that contains that they have to follow thier king in war.
  • Continued fight among the king about might and power
  • Fight between kings and church over power/ influence on the people
social
  • Royal Familys, Farmers and commoners are always seperate.
  • Where you're born and in which family you get born in will determine what kind of life you have to live
  • Royal Family is on top (they manage all the land and commoners), Farmers in the middle (they have to give thier harvest to the royal family and serve them) and on the bottom you have the commoners (they have to serve themselves and the royal familys)
